Galata Mevlevihanesi Museum is under restoration and therefore on the way to get rid of the dead skin overlaid on it. The film of Ebru Bilun Akyıldız got inspiration from this trip but it has gone far beyond. Because she wants to know what it is that attracts people all over the world to this humble building? She has taken a closer look at its history, tradition and traces of lives past on it in order to understand. With its permeable stand between life and death, its Sheikh Galip who gave his name to the street it is on; and its cats that are remnant of Fasih Dede, the Galata Mevlevihanesi has sometimes dragged the film in its silent mood.
The Galata Mevlevihanesi is essential part of Istanbul's soul. Understanding the Mevlevihane might provide significant contribution to understanding Istanbul. Furthermore we will have the chance to look at Mawlana Jalal al-Din al-Rumi through the looking glass of Mawlawi dervishes in this film.
Galata Mevlevihanesi Museum has been closed down for years due to the Protection and Repair works. As we will regain our Museum with its new arrangements in April 2010, the movie will meet with its audience.
