'New Trends of Architecture in Europe and Asia-Pacific' exhibition opened

Organized by the Arkitera Architecture Center, the exhibition 'New Trends of Architecture in Europe 2008-2010’ was opened under the sponsorship of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency and with the support of Buildist at Milli Reasürans Art Gallery by an opening panel held on 9 March 2010. Han Tümertekin from Turkey is one of the architects from Asia and Europe whose works are exhibited.

The panel commenced as the Singaporean architect Wong Mun Summ told about his projects. Summ conveyed various architectural instances through multi-storey buildings and explained how they applied the green design on Newton Suites building in Singapore to make it retain its feature as an ecological building.

He also told that Bras Basah MRT Station Project was designed topographically in order to facilitate fast and easy mobilization of people and that the building could get natural daylight even in the lowest floor thanks to the glass layers on the roof.

Other participating architects also told about their projects with articulation on their architectural innovations and made presentations. The Turkish architect Han Tümertekin explaine dhow he had initiated his work by the question “What is the main requirement?”

The panel went on as Ömer Kanıpak the coordinator of Arkitera Architecture Center, asked the participant architects “What are your tendencies about architectural trends? What does it mean to you when architecture turns out to be a means for consumption?” Participant architects answered this question in their own understanding.

The panel was ended by answering the questions from the audience. The exhibition will stay open at Milli Reasürans Art Gallery until 10 April 2010.
