The Swatch Group, one of the world’s largest watch manufacturers, has designed a special watch for Istanbul within the scope of a special project realized in cooperation with the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency. Istanbul gets to be the sixth city in the world to which the Swatch Group gave a place in its collection. The group previously designed special watches for London, New York, Zurich, Tokyo and Madrid.
Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency ascertains that the watch, named “Istanbul34,” is expected to be among the best projects to have the city recognized throughout the world as it includes a silhouette of major Istanbul landmarks.
The most striking inspiration in designing of the watch is that Istanbul is the only city in the world that connects two continents. Therefore the left strap of the watch displays the European continent whereas the right one depicts Asia. The Boshporus Bridge that connects two continents appears on the dial. Swatch also placed the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture logo on the design just to point out the purpose of the design.
Istanbul34 will appear in store shelves in March with a price tag of TL 99.
