International Relations Directorate carries out activities intended for maintaining sound relations and coordination with international organizations of culture and arts and European Capitals of Culture; and coordinates production and pursuit of joint projects in compliance with criteria pertaining to the notion of European Capital of Culture.

On the Edge of Passion – Joint Project with Liverpool 2008 ECOC Realized by Liverpool 2008 ECOC the project “Cities on the Edge” takes up three cities: Istanbul, Marseilles and Liverpool famous beyond their borders for their unconditional dedication to their football teams and their cities.

“Cultural Policies in Turkey and Europe” Symposium ended Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency discussed “Cultural Policies” -which constitute a primary subject in the agenda of EU countries- in Istanbul the European Capital of Culture of 2010.

41° – 29° Istanbul Network The project 41° – 29° Istanbul Network was created by Esra Nilgün Mirze on the occasion of Istanbul receiving the title of European Capital of Culture, and aims at creating a network among European countries to support young art professionals who would like to work internationally.

Civil Society Dialogue Istanbul 2010 ECOC Grant Scheme Programme Call for Proposals is open In 2000, the title of European Capital of Culture was extended to include cities in countries that were not members of the European Union during the period 2005-2019.

"Extra Europa" – Joint Project with Linz 2009 ECOC Linz 2009 European Capital of Culture has developed a project under the title "Extra Europa" focusing on three European countries which are not members of the EU.

“What is European Culture?” Symposium The series of symposia entitled “What is European Culture?” was arranged within the context of 2008-2010 events of Istanbul 2010 ECOCA International Relations Directorate.
